Caring for your carpets – candle wax removal
We LOVE candles! They can be therapeutic, romantic, make a room feel cosy and can also make it smell pretty great too! However they can also be a nightmare when the molten liquid falls to the floor and embeds itself into your beautiful carpet! So, what do you do? Have no fear, we can tell you the best method of candle wax removal for your carpets…
The method – candle wax removal in three (yes just three!) simple steps
- Let it dry – I know this is hard, and you will probably want to scrub it off the carpet as quick as possible! However, this will only ground the wax further into the carpet pile, and make it more difficult to remove. Be patient. Wait till it dries.
- Next, break up the hardened surface with a blunt instrument and remove the loose pieces. Be very gentle with this process so to avoid damaging the fibres of your carpet; your aim is just to loosen and break down the wax for step 3.
- Next you are going to need some brown paper and an iron. Lay the brown paper (matt side) over the wax and as you apply the tip end of a warm iron to the area, start to drag the paper out with your other hand. This will soak up the warmed wax as you go. Keep repeating this until the wax is gone!
Hey presto – your carpet is as good as new!
FAQs
You might be thinking… do I need to do a patch test first?
Good question! It is important to remember that some fibres and fabrics may melt under a hot iron so test the brown paper and iron trick in an inconspicuous area first.
I’ve done the above, but there’s still a little residue left?
If there is a little residue left, you can use a solvent such as nail varnish remover on a cotton pad to blot it off.
