So what do we need to know about Coronavirus?
Our suppliers at Alltec have been really helpful in educating us on viruses such as Coronavirus:
Coronavirus is an ‘enveloped’ virus. In basic terms, this means the virus is surrounded by an outer membrane or ‘envelope’, which allows the virus to attach to a host cell and replicate. However this envelope also makes the virus very fragile, which we can use to our advantage.
Enveloped viruses are vulnerable outside the body. They can easily be destroyed with disinfectant and hot water, which is why regular hand-washing is vital. It’s much trickier once the virus enters the human body, but by keeping our homes clean and safe, we can better protect our loved ones.
So what can we clean our homes with to help protect against viruses? Bleach is very effective against these kinds of viruses, but not particularly gentle on carpets and soft furnishings! Alcohol (such as in hand sanitisers) also works, but due to it evaporating quite quickly, it won’t provide long lasting protection. Quaternary Ammonium Compounds (QATs) however can be applied and left on the surface of carpets and upholstery and are able to penetrate viruses’ outer membranes.
Careclean’s Envirosafe Cleaner and Eco-Spotter both contain this vital ingredient. Better yet both products can be used on a whole range of surfaces (including carpets and soft furnishings) to help provide longer-lasting protection. These can be used – as part of a thorough deep cleaning process – in care homes, doctors’ surgeries, schools, and homes where virus and bacterial control is required. It also must be stated that as it is so new, there isn’t currently a product out there that has been ‘proven’ to kill COVID-19, although as Alltec’s information above suggests, using the right products definitely improves our chances of tackling these kind of viruses.

- We always disinfect all of our equipment before use and wear appropriate protective clothing where necessary.
- Our cleaning machines are truck mounted, so will stay outside in the van when we are cleaning so you don’t need to worry about us bringing large equipment into your home.
